Derek Has Something In The Works

Williams stirs 'Krazees' with Par Pics, Nick

By Liza Foreman
A comic fantasy feature based on the preschool book "The Krazees" has been set up at Paramount Pictures and Nick Movies as a starring vehicle for Robin Williams.

Derek Guiley and David Schneiderman have been hired to adapt the book, hich was written by Sam Swope and illustrated by Eric Brace.

In adapting the book, Guiley and Schneiderman are creating a role for Williams as a repressed psychologist unable to deal with his daughter hitting puberty and whose emotions manifest as CGI characters. As they wreak havoc on his life, the psychologist is forced to team up with the only other person who can see them and the one person with whom his relationship is most strained: his daughter. Williams also will lend his voice to the CGI creatures.

Paramount and Nick Movies are developing the project, with Nick Movies set to produce and Paramount to distribute. Julia Pistor is producing for Nick. Executive Karen Rosenfelt will oversee "The Krazees" for Paramount, while Damon Ross will oversee for Nick.

A lighthearted look at kids' bad days, the book follows a young girl who encounters mischievous polka-dotted creatures known as krazees who show up on gloomy, gray days and vanish when the sun comes out.

Guiley and Schneiderman recently set up the action-comedy pitch "Test Drive" at 20th Century Fox. Their first produced credit was for "Chasing Liberty," the lcon-produced film in which Mandy Moore plays the president's daughter.

Williams most recently starred in "House of D" and "The Final Cut."

The writers are represented by ICM and manager Ilan Breil. Attorney Rick Genow also helped negotiate their deal. Williams is represented by CAA.
